Circus folk often begin their careers as children, like Carol and Grace Macmanus, seen here with their dad Carlos in a performance at Manchester's Belle Vue Circus in 1969.
Carol and Grace grew up to found Circus Mondao, which is one of the last truly traditional big top shows still touring the UK with horses (presented by Carol) and doves (presented by Gracie).
They come from a family with circus roots stretching back around 200 years.
Read their story, and many others, in Circus Mania.
The book charts my backstage journey through the world of sawdust and spangles, talking to acrobats, lion tamers, sword-swallowers, illusionists and circus proprietors about their unique history, traditions, superstitions and ongoing lifestyle.
